Are EuroMillions Prizes Taxed?
All EuroMillion lottery prizes are paid out tax-free except for Spain EuroMillions. In Spain, there are two tax bands imposed on lottery winnings:
Tax Band 1: Tax-free up to €40,000.
Tax Band 2: Any portion of the prize exceeding €40,000 is subject to a tax rate of 20%.
Lucky for players from abroad, citizens of most countries other than Spain are exempt from these tax bands and entitled to a full tax refund in order to prevent double taxation on the winner’s prize. One thing that should be noted is that claiming a tax-refund is the sole responsibility of the winner and must be done through the Spanish tax authorities.
Take Steps to Secure Winning Lottery Tickets

If you are lucky enough to win the lottery, the last thing you want to do is let the prize slip through your fingers.
To protect yourself, the first thing you should do after you receive a lottery ticket, even before you know whether it’s a winner or not, is to sign it. Your signature on the back of a lottery ticket can help prove it’s yours if it gets lost or stolen.
Also, never hand a ticket to a clerk at a lottery location and ask if you’ve won. Use a computer terminal to determine if you’re a winner, ask the clerk for the winning numbers and verify them yourself, or check online or in newspapers to find the winning numbers. It’s easy for an unscrupulous clerk to pocket your ticket and tell you it was a loser.
How to Play
How do you play EuroMillions?
To play EuroMillions, you must select five main numbers from 1 to 50 and two Lucky Star numbers between 1 and 12. You can buy tickets from authorised retailers in any of the nine participating countries, or enter online. View the How to Play EuroMillions page for a step-by-step guide to taking part.
What is the cut-off time for ticket sales?
Ticket sales close at 7:30pm UK time on the night of a draw. Sales remain closed until the draw has taken place, reopening shortly after for the next draw.
Can you enter more than one draw in advance?
You can buy tickets for up to four weeks in advance, entering either the Tuesday draw each week, the Friday draw, or both. It is therefore possible to enter your numbers into eight consecutive draws by playing every Tuesday and Friday for four weeks. You can also sign up to play continuously by direct debit.
Can the same number appear as a main number and a Lucky Star?
Yes, the Lucky Stars are drawn from a separate pool of 12 numbers. You can therefore select the same number(s) as a Lucky Star and a main ball.
How much does it cost to play?
The cost of a single EuroMillions play in the UK is £2.50. This price also enters you automatically into the Millionaire Maker.
Can you play EuroMillions if you don’t live in a participating country?
EuroMillions tickets are available from retailers in Austria, Belgium, France, Ireland, Luxembourg, Portugal, Spain and Switzerland, as well as the UK. However, the game can also be played online in other countries thanks to online concierge and betting services. Go to the Tickets page to take part.
HOW TO CHOOSE THE BEST EURO MILLIONS NUMBERS
Treat EuroMillions as two separate lotteries. One is a pick-5 from 50 numbers; the other is
a pick-2 from 12 numbers. Advantage Gold
software tracks the histories of the Red Balls and the Lucky Star balls in two separate files,
which treats them like two separate drawings, each having its own set of charts to make it easy to strategize.
Wheel the Red Balls using the Balanced Wheels in the Wheel Five Gold
software or the book, Lotto Winning Wheels for
Powerball & MEGA Millions. After a few Euromillions drawings, include in your wheel all the virgin
numbers that are yet to be drawn until they have all had at least one win. To give you immediate
access to wheeling systems, you can use the FREE pick-5 multiple-jackpot winning Balanced Wheels
for the Red Balls.

Have LottoSmile Players Won EuroMillions Prizes?
Two LottoSmile players have scored big wins playing EuroMillions online and both of them were just one number away from winning the EuroMillions jackpot. In June 2012, G.R. from Russian won €144,240 in EuroMillions and in October 2013, I.K. from Hungary won €489,777 — our biggest EuroMillions prize winner to date. Read LottoSmile EuroMillions Winners: Hungarian Player Wins €489,777.
A couple from Luxembourg that had been playing at LottoSmile for over three years won a third prize of €36,694.30 playing the Austrian version of EuroMillions in November 2017. While it is possible to buy EuroMillions tickets online on the Loterie Nationale Luxembourg website, the couple said they were more confident playing EuroMillions at LottoSmile. Read their story here.

USE BALANCED WHEEL SYSTEMS
Balanced Wheeling Systems allow you to bet a large group of numbers (more than 5), play scientific combinations of that group of numbers, and get a specific minimum win guarantee.
Balanced Wheels force all the winning numbers that are in your group to come together to give you at least one prize if some or all of the winning numbers are in your chosen group.
It’s true that the more numbers you wheel, the easier it is to trap the winning
numbers in your chosen group. But to get the most leverage for your money, the optimum
number of numbers to wheel is not more than four or five numbers over HALF the numbers
in your game. To beat the odds of winning Euro Millions, your best chance to win is by
wheeling less than about 30 of the 50 total numbers.
Otherwise, you’ll be spending MORE money chasing a SMALLER guaranteed prize.
You benefit more by wheeling a carefully selected group of lotto numbers.
THE BEST WAY TO WHEEL ALL THE LOTTO NUMBERS IN YOUR GAME
Any one wheeling
system that covers ALL the numbers in the game is too spread out, making the win
guarantee not worth the wager. There are smart ways to wheel all the numbers in
the game by using Trap-by-Overlap and other wheeling strategies covered on pages
137 to 142 in Gail Howard’s lotto book, Lottery Master Guide.
Most of Smart Luck’s lottery winners used a Balanced Wheel in addition to her Smart Luck number selection methods.
You can use a FREE interactive Balanced Wheel System that won multiple jackpots.
Read about our lottery winners, too.
And when you win a jackpot with Smart Luck lotto systems, tell us about it so you can be added to Gail Howard’s growing list of winners.
If you don’t want your name publicized, we will honor that.
How to WIN Euro Millions
Below are a few lotto tips to help you pick euro millions winning combinations, but Gail Howard’s book,
Lottery Master Guide, explains all of her
successful methods of number selection in great detail with examples
of patterns shown throughout.
Lottery numbers are randomly drawn. But randomly drawn numbers form patterns
that can be tracked and used to our advantage. Having carefully analyzed all the
drawings in past lottery results of more than 180 different Lotto games worldwide, with
histories going back as far as 1955, we have verified the following incredibly simple rule:
That which is MOST POSSIBLE happens MOST OFTEN.
That which is LEAST POSSIBLE happens LEAST OFTEN.
The key to Smart Luck’s successful lotto number selection methods is playing
the probabilities. If you play a pattern that occurs only five
percent of the time, you can expect that pattern to lose 95
percent of the time, giving you no chance to win 95 percent of
the time. So, don’t buck the probabilities.
Predicting the Outcome of the EuroMillions Draw
You have to understand that probability theory is simply a reliable guide. Naturally, the expected frequency and the actual frequency will not always match exactly.
You use probability to predict the future outcome of the game to guide you on how to play your game.
For example, if we want to know in advance the outcome of EuroMillions after 2000 draws, we use the same formula for expected frequency:
If we are to predict the outcome of all the odd-even patterns, we will come up with the following prediction table below:
|Pattern||Probability||Estimated Occurrence in 2000 draws|
As a smart EuroMillions player, you don’t want to waste your money on patterns with low probability. That is the power of probability calculation as we apply it in EuroMillions.
As a lotto player, you want to win the jackpot. Therefore, you should stick with either 3-odd-2-even or 2-odd-3-even and forget about the rest of the patterns.
You get the same idea when it comes to low-high patterns. You don’t want to pick a combination whose composition is purely low numbers or strictly high numbers.
However, EuroMillions is not only about low-high or odd-even patterns.
We discuss low-high and odd-even patterns to show that the lottery can be predicted to an extent. But the low-high and odd-even patterns don’t provide the whole picture of the EuroMillions game.
You must understand the EuroMillions game as a whole if you want to win the game. For you to achieve that, you have to understand intricate combinatorial patterns, which is the real key to EuroMillions’ success.
Let’s proceed to discuss what advanced patterns can do to level up your lotto playing strategy.
Beware of Lottery Scams
Beware of Fake Lottery Wins.

Unfortunately, many scammers try to take advantage of people’s dreams of winning the lottery. Here are a few tips to protect yourself and avoid lottery scams:
- Only buy tickets from authorized lottery retailers.
- It’s not legal to sell lottery tickets across national borders. You can usually buy tickets if you are located in the country, but offers to sell international lottery tickets by mail or online are usually illegal.
- If you didn’t buy a lottery ticket or participate in a second-chance lottery game, you didn’t win.
- The lottery doesn’t notify you when you win; you are responsible for checking your winning tickets.
- You’re never required to pay money up-front to receive a winning lottery prize.
EuroMillions Superdraw Facts
- The minimum jackpot is approximately AUD$210 million, no matter how small the previous jackpot was.
- It costs the same amount to play as a regular EuroMillions draw.
- The chances of winning are exactly the same as a regular EuroMillions draw.
- You enter a Superdraw in the same way as a regular draw, just make sure you select the Superdraw when you buy your European Millions tickets.
- If it’s not won, the jackpot continues to grow until it is won, until it hits the jackpot cap of AUD$320 million.
- Twice in the past, the Superdraw prize was smaller than the regular jackpot! When this happens, the planned Superdraw is cancelled. In 2014, the normal draw was worth more than the Superdraw’s AUD$160 million. In 2019, the normal draw, at an astounding AUD$305 million, was worth significantly more than the Superdraw’s AUD$160 million.
- Winnings are tax and commission free.
